I will start with telling you that no one is certain of exactly what the virus is or how it came to be, so if you are looking for an answer about that you're shit out of luck. Some people might tell you that it's nothing less than the wrath of God, sent to punish the wicked for their sins. Many natives living on the island would tell you that it is an ancient curse put upon them by the mother and father Rangi and Papa... a sort of sacrifice, to appease the balance of nature for their children wanting to push them apart from each other.

It could really be either of those. I'm not interested, honestly. All I can tell you is how it spreads.

All it takes is a bite. Just one, simple, small little bite to you from a zombie, and you are absolutely screwed. Before the day is out you'll be one of those disgusting, hellish things, and I'm telling you it'd be better just to have someone put you out of your misery before you turn.

After the first two hours, you will start to feel sick, with the same standard symptoms as the flu or a cold. A headache, dizziness, a fever, and nausea in mild forms will all start to surface, and it's at this point that your body will start to shut down. Your organs will switch off one by one because the virus pulsing through your veins no longer needs them to work -- all it needs is a functioning brain. Once your body is dead, you will come back as one of four different types of zombies.

The type of zombie that you are largely has to do with the electrical functions and synapses already in your brain. Depending on how your brain handles the virus, you will come back to a zombie form reflecting this.
