Distractions

Gina was not in the habit of taking time off. Well, at least she typically was not during the week. When she'd worked in the corporate environment, she was guaranteed weekends and most holidays. Here at the resort, if she wanted time off she had to take it. Even then she still found herself on call in the event an emergency came up...or sometimes even if something that someone considered an emergency came up.
She knew it annoyed Bill to no end. He'd never say it, but she saw his jaw tighten every time she took a call, or when a resort staffer interrupted their dinner date to complain about a delivery or retell a guest encounter. He was a good sport about it, but she knew it was part of what would never keep them on this island longer than two years.
He was another reason she had come into the Kia Ora Village today. When he was working from their resort bungalow, she could stop down at any time for a break before heading back to her office. With him gone, hanging around the resort seemed boring. On a more positive note, she told herself that she was properly utilizing her alone time to do things she never did when he was home.
So she'd made the point of coming in today. She was adequately distracted from their conversation yesterday morning, and had spent most of this morning staring at her computer screen while trying to text him for more information on his little "surprise" that he was bringing home. He was not cracking, and she was not amused.
Gina 12:05 PM: Just one hint?
Bill 12:15 PM: Nope. You'll have to wait until tomorrow
Sighing, she shoved her phone back into her purse. She shouldn't be so irritated, she just hated surprises. She didn't even know he was proposing. For that matter, he could be planning to get a tattoo reading "BG + GL 4EVA". She cringed at that thought.
A blue and white sundress along one of the store fronts caught her eye. She paused, looking over it. No, she was certain of it. He was proposing, and before they moved on to different careers back in the States, they'd have a sunset beach wedding...maybe even in that particular sundress. Tomorrow afternoon Rose was on her own-Gina was going home after lunch, turning off her phone, and giving Bill her complete attention.
